ACO K300 Trench Drain System — 12" General-Purpose Modular Drainage

The ACO K300 Trench Drain System is a versatile, general-purpose drainage solution with a 12-inch internal width. Choose galvanized steel or stainless steel edge rails to match site conditions and appearance goals. K300 supports a continuous slope installation up to ~130 ft, helping sustain water velocity for efficient conveyance across long runs. In practical terms: it installs quickly, drains fast, and offers grate options to meet traffic, safety, and design criteria.

Why Specify ACO K300?

Key Features — explained for real-world use:
  • Boltless locking systemsDrainLok and QuickLok® allow fast, tool-light grate handling so routine cleanouts take less time.
  • Anti-shunt lugs & numbered channels — Lugs resist grate movement under load, while channel numbering keeps slopes and sequencing accurate.
  • Grate portfolio up to Load Class E — Mesh, slotted, perforated, and ductile-iron options to balance hydraulics, slip resistance, aesthetics, and wheel loads.
  • Continuous slope up to ~130 ft — Helps maintain hydraulic grade for reliable water evacuation across long runs.
  • Edge rail choices — Galvanized steel or stainless steel for improved corrosion resistance.

Typical Applications

  • Retail plazas, stadium concourses, and campus promenades
  • Parking decks and perimeter curb-line drainage
  • Industrial aprons and service courts with intermittent vehicle loading
  • Commercial hardscapes using decorative grate patterns

Installation Guide (Step-by-Step)

Use this field-friendly sequence (verify with project plans and local codes):

  1. Layout & elevations: Map the run, outlet points, and any catch basins. Confirm start/finish elevations if using continuous slope.
  2. Excavation & base: Excavate to allow for bedding and concrete encasement. Compact sub-base and place a stable bedding layer.
  3. Set channels: Start at the outlet. Follow numbered channels to build slope properly; check line and grade frequently.
  4. Join & align: Seat joints to keep the internal invert smooth. Verify grate seat alignment along edge rails.
  5. Concrete backfill: Place evenly on both sides to the specified thickness. Re-check elevation to prevent float or twist.
  6. Grates & locks: Fit grates using DrainLok or QuickLok®. Ensure anti-shunt lugs engage; test fit along the length.
  7. Finish surfaces: Bring surrounding pavement flush to edge rails. Perform a water test and remove construction debris.
Specifier Tip: Use stainless edge rails near de-icing salts, coastal exposure, or food-service areas. Select higher Load Class grates where vehicle wheel paths cross the drain.

Case Study — Stadium Concourse Upgrade

Location: Regional stadium with pre- and post-event pedestrian surges and periodic service-vehicle access.
Problem: During thunderstorms, water sheeted across the concourse, causing slippery areas and concession closures.
Design Approach: The engineer specified ACO K300 with a continuous slope (~125 ft) toward two outfalls. Perforated stainless grates were used near concessions for a clean look and corrosion resistance; slotted ductile-iron grates were set in service lanes. Boltless DrainLok/QuickLok® simplified rapid cleanouts between events.

Outcome: Surface water cleared faster, slip incidents decreased, and concessions stayed open more consistently during storms. Facility staff reported quicker grate removal/replacement for maintenance and appreciated the accurate alignment from numbered channels.

Maintenance Made Simple

  • Quarterly debris checks at inlets/outfalls and low points
  • Confirm anti-shunt engagement and grate seating, especially in wheel paths
  • Power-wash channels as needed to maintain clear V-invert flow

FAQs

How do DrainLok and QuickLok® differ?
Both are boltless systems designed for fast grate handling. Choice typically depends on spec and installer preference.
Which grate should I choose?
Start with required load class (up to Class E), then balance slip resistance, open area, and appearance—mesh/perforated for pedestrian zones, slotted/ductile-iron where vehicles cross.
When is stainless steel preferred for edge rails?
Use stainless in corrosive or premium-finish environments—near salt exposure, food service, or coastal conditions. Galvanized steel is a durable, cost-effective default elsewhere.

Specify ACO K300 with Confidence
