Pyramat Turf Reinforcement Mats
A three-dimensional woven polypropylene geotextile with pyramid-like projections — engineered for permanent erosion control on steep slopes, banks, and vegetated waterways, with very high soil-and-root interlock and superior UV resistance.
Pyramat is a turf reinforcement mat that is used for permanent erosion control on steep slopes, banks and vegetated waterways. Pyramats are made from woven polypropylene geotextile that is configured into pyramid-like projections. These TRMS have a high interlock and reinforcement capacity that helps stabilize soil and promote vegetation.
High-Performance Turf Reinforcement Mats
Engineered With Patented X3 Fiber Technology
This is a three-dimensional woven polypropylene geotextile. It’s designed with patented X3® Fiber Technology. It’s specifically engineered for superior erosion control on steep slopes and vegetated waterways. This mat offers the highest specification requirements for protection from erosion on slopes, banks, and channels.
It is also the only High-Performance Turf Reinforcement Mat to have a verified carbon footprint by an independent third-party. From beginning to end, the carbon footprint of 1m2 of the 75 HPTRM is 2.7 kgCO2e — equivalent to driving 7 miles.

Pyramat 25 vs. 50 vs. 75
Pyramat 25
UV life up to 25 years
A three-dimensional woven polypropylene geotextile with patented X3® Fiber Technology, designed for superior erosion control on moderate slopes and vegetated waterways.
- Flow channels
- Slopes
- Stress conditions
Pyramat 50
Mid-tier reinforcement
The same X3® woven construction in a mid-range reinforcement tier — available in both 8.5-foot and 15-foot widths to suit a range of slope and channel projects.
- Slopes and banks
- Channels and waterways
- Green or tan
Pyramat 75
UV life up to 75 years
The high-performance tier: three-dimensional woven polypropylene with X3® Fiber Technology, engineered for the most demanding steep slopes and vegetated waterways.
- Steepened slopes & stormwater channels
- Landfill erosion control
- Arid & semi-arid soil protection
All three models share the patented X3® Fiber Technology, EPA / Federal Highway Administration recognition as a Best Management Practice, and are available in 8.5-foot and 15-foot widths in green or tan. The Pyramat 75 offers tensile strength of 3,000 lbs/ft and superior UV resistance for a design life up to 75 years.
Pyramat in Action
A Greener Choice Than Hard Armor
It increases vegetation and controls erosion. It’s engineered to lock seeds and soil in place for fast root development for long-term vegetation. The result is a natural-looking appearance versus a colorless rock rip rap or concrete — an excellent choice for living shorelines. Using a High-Performance Turf Reinforcement Mat will maintain cooler temperatures of water than a standard hard-armoring alternative.
The manufacturing facility is ISO 14001 certified, which recognizes Propex as actively measuring its environmental impact and continuously looking for ways to improve its green commitment.

Result
10+ years stable
Los Angeles County in California needed to repair Woodley Channel after it was seriously damaged by large storms and flooding. LADPW along with the county wanted to re-establish vegetation in the channel which originally used riprap for protecting against erosion.
The previous rock riprap was replaced with 15,000 square yards of PYRAMAT® 75 High-Performance Turf Reinforcement Mat (HPTRM). PYRAMAT® 75 costs a lot less than rock and offers up to 75 years of design life, even when exposed directly to sunlight. Its woven construction was designed to lock in seeds and establish reinforcement to the roots of native vegetation.
On top of being more cost-effective than rock, PYRAMAT® is environmentally friendly. It removes pollutants from the waterways with vegetation, reduces thermal pollution, and decreases greenhouse gases associated with mining, hauling, and placing of rock riprap. High-Performance Turf Reinforcement Mat, like PYRAMAT® 75, has been recognized by the EPA as a Best Management Practice (BMP) for improving the quality of groundwater. PYRAMAT® is the only HPTRM to have its carbon footprint verified by a third-party organization. Its carbon impact is 30 times less than rock riprap and other hard protection solutions.
For more than 10 years, Woodley Channel is stable with no signs of erosion. Vegetation is thriving, offering a natural, aesthetically pleasing outcome.
Project Note: Bell Road, Scottsdale, AZ
The city needed permanent protection for an eroding roadway drainage channel fronting the commercial developments along Bell Road in Scottsdale, AZ. Rip rap and concrete were the most unpopular choices and went beyond the city’s budget. Propex worked with Gannett Fleming using the 75 TRM instead, to reinforce the native vegetation and provide a UV-stabilized, permanent lining able to withstand heavy flows from desert monsoons.
