Why Specify ACO K200?

Key Features — explained for real-world use:
  • Boltless locking systemsDrainLok and QuickLok® make grate fitting and removal fast and tool-light, so routine cleanouts are quicker.
  • Anti-shunt lugs & numbered channels — Lugs help prevent grate movement under load; channel numbering keeps your slopes and sequencing accurate on site.
  • Grate choices up to Load Class E — Mesh, slotted, perforated, and ductile iron options let you balance hydraulics, slip resistance, appearance, and wheel loads.
  • Continuous slope up to ~130 ft — Helps maintain velocity for efficient water conveyance across longer runs.
  • Edge rail options — Galvanized steel or stainless steel for higher corrosion resistance.

Typical Applications

  • Retail plazas, sidewalks, and pedestrian concourses
  • Parking decks and perimeter drainage along curb lines
  • Commercial courtyards and hardscapes with decorative grates
  • Light-to-medium traffic drive lanes and drop-off areas

Installation Guide (Step-by-Step)

Follow this practical sequence (always confirm with project drawings and local codes):

  1. Layout & elevations: Map the run and endpoints. If using continuous slope, verify start and finish elevations to maintain hydraulic grade.
  2. Excavation & base: Excavate to allow for bedding and concrete encasement as required. Compact sub-base and place a stable bedding layer.
  3. Set channels: Begin at the outlet/invert. Follow the numbered channels to build the slope sequence correctly; check line and grade frequently.
  4. Join & align: Seat joints so the internal invert is smooth. Confirm grate seat alignment along the edge rails.
  5. Concrete backfill: Place evenly on both sides to the specified thickness. Re-check elevation to prevent float or twist.
  6. Grates & locks: Fit grates using DrainLok or QuickLok®. Ensure anti-shunt lugs engage and test fit along the run.
  7. Finish surfaces: Bring surrounding pavement flush to edge rails. Perform a water test and remove construction debris.
Specifier Tip: Use stainless edge rails near de-icing salts, coastal exposure, or food-service areas. Reserve your highest Load Class grates where vehicular wheel paths cross the drain line.

Case Study — Mixed-Use Plaza Retrofit

Location: Sunbelt mixed-use plaza with restaurants, retail, and evening events.
Problem: After summer monsoons, ponding occurred along the plaza’s main walkway, causing slippery surfaces near storefronts and outdoor seating.
Design Approach: The engineer specified ACO K200 with a continuous slope run (~120 ft) toward a central outfall. Perforated stainless grates were used in front of restaurants for aesthetics and corrosion resistance, while slotted ductile iron grates were placed where maintenance carts and delivery vehicles cross the line. Boltless DrainLok/QuickLok® simplified seasonal cleanouts.

Outcome: Walkways stayed clear during heavy rainfall, slip incidents dropped, and store owners reported fewer closures during storms. Maintenance crews noted faster grate removal and reinstallation, reducing labor time during quarterly inspections.

Maintenance Made Simple

  • Quarterly debris checks at inlets/outfalls and at any low points
  • Inspect grate seating and anti-shunt engagement along wheel paths
  • Power wash channels as needed to maintain clear flow through the run

FAQs

What’s the difference between DrainLok and QuickLok®?
Both are boltless systems designed for fast grate handling. Your choice typically comes down to project spec and installer preference.
How do I choose a grate?
Start with the required load class (up to Class E available), then balance slip resistance, open area (hydraulics), and aesthetic—mesh/perforated for pedestrians, slotted/ductile iron where vehicles cross.
When should I use stainless steel edge rails?
Use stainless in corrosive or high-appearance areas (near salt, food service, or coastal exposure). Galvanized steel is a great all-around, cost-effective choice elsewhere.

Specify ACO K200 with Confidence
