Pyramat 75 is a high performance 3-D HPTRM mat made from woven polypropylene geotextile. This product is designed for erosion control applications on steep slopes and vegetated waterways. Propex 75 material exhibits very high interlock and reinforcement capacity with both soil and root systems, demonstrates superior UV resistance, and enhances seedling emergence.

This fabric is produced in the state of Georgia, USA and can meet Build America / Buy America (BABA) requirements when requested. If ordering this fabric for a BABA project be sure to indicate that a BABA fabric is required in the “order message” field on the cart page.

Pyramat is Used for Erosion control

Municipality of Pointe-Calumet, QC Project

The municipality of Pointe-Calumet, QC is located on the northern shore of the Ottawa River in Canada. High waters have caused overtopping of the existing concrete walls on the shoreline which has led to serious flooding.  Federal funding was granted to support the community from more frequent weather conditions and protect the municipality from future flooding.

The Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund (DMAF) has been in place for 10 years helping communities build infrastructure to withstand natural hazards including floods, wildfires, earthquakes, and drought.

Note: We also have a geomat for permanent soil stabilization.

Performance

The Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Funds were used by the town to extend the concrete walls an additional 700 mm in height. The walls stretch  2.5 km in length and run through 150 lots.  In order to protect from erosion for surrounding homes that are nearby the wall, High-Performance Turf Reinforcement (HPTRM) was installed.  PYRAMAT 75 provided superior erosion control on vegetated waterways for up to 75 years. It also promoted reinforced vegetation which has been recognized as the Best Management Practice (BMP) by the EPA for improving water quality. Once installed, sod was placed over the PYRAMAT.

The vegetation has offered homeowners a natural and aesthetic feel while supporting Canada's vision of a more resilient, low-carbon economy. The green infrastructure supported community growth while preventing the effects of climate change.

The Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix

The Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix sits in the southernmost portion of the Desert Ridge Mast Planned Community. USACE or the US Army Corps of Engineers, offered wash corridors within the community to remain natural.

The  Mayo Clinic Phoenix Campus was constructed in 1996.  Before the development of the campus, the City of Phoenix required a corridor to be designated along the eastern boundary of the campus for the construction of the regional drainage channel. The channel would protect the eastern part of the campus from offsite flows. The entire project was within the FEMA-defined floodplain FEMA Special Floor Hazard area.

In 2005, an Individual 404 Permit was issued by the USACE for the campus allowing disturbance to jurisdictional washes located on the campus. The conditions for approval would require reconstructed wash corridors to be rejuvenated with new vegetation cover.

The Solution

Development along the eastern side of the campus required the construction of improved drainage. A new channel was linked to the existing culverts below the 101 loop and then routed down between buildings on the eastern side of the campus.

That section of the channel served as a low-flowing section to match the existing wash bank's full capacity. The 100-year design of 2,338 CFS would overtop the low-flow banks and be contained within the flood flow channel.

To protect the outer banks from flood flow caused by erosion, they promoted natural vegetation recommended by the USACE. To help with desert landscaping planting the design engineers choose PYRAMAT ® 75.

Performance

PYRAMAT 75 is a High-Performance Turf Reinforcement Mat (HPTRM) that protects the ground surface from erosion while still promoting natural vegetation. Because of its similar structure, PYRAMAT 75 can be cut to help landscape planting for aesthetics. PYRAMAT 75 was an approved material for privately owned channels within the City of Phoenix.

After installing PYRAMAT it was filled with soil and hydroseeded with a mix of native seeds.

The installed natural-based solution meets the USACE requirements but does not require any revisions to the FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM)
